Mother’s rights versus fetus rights
Abortions, a controversial topic that has been surfacing our daily lives more often. For
numerous reasons. One very important reason includes women and their passion and hope to
gain more rights. Therefore they are asking for control of their bodies when it comes to their
pregnancy regardless of the trimester. However when should a line be drawn to differentiate
control of one’s body over the harm of another.

Harold Morowitz and James Trefil are both scientist that explained the science and
psychology behind abortions. Harold Morowitz is a biophysicist and James Trefil is a physicist.
They are both professors at George Mason University. According to them the government has no say on that fetus until it is human meaning that it has been born. It can be considered a human and no longer a fetus. What is very interesting about this book is that although they provide aid for those in debate about abortions, the information provided does not include any information on third trimesters abortions. Which according to Walter G. Roseen it is basically left to assume that we have to weight the interest of the mother versus the baby inside the wound.

In this research paper an experiment was led with hopes to identify why women have
abortions. As most of us assume, there are many reasons. Which is why many people believe that government should not have a say on when a women can and can not participate in a abortion. One of the many reasons which by the way are very understandable and essential include money or the time they got pregnant. According to this research study, individuals rather say no to abortions because they are not knowledgeable on why a woman would want an abortion. Other reasons include lack of support from family and/or the their significant other. The subject for the research vary in age. There was a woman of thirty-nine years old and she still decided to have an abortion because she felt as if her husband and her could not afford health insurance for the baby. Some mention the fear of decreasing their opportunities or even not finishing school because of the baby.

Gina Schouten in her paper Fetuses, Orphans, and a Famous Violinist: On the Ethics and
Politics of Abortion, Schouten address the ethics and morality of abortion. She goes on to say
that she will be focusing on unwanted pregnancies, such as non-life threatening pregnancies or
pregnancies not resulted from rape as she explores the ethics and politics of Abortion. Schouten express the defense of abortion made by American philosopher, Judith Thompson. Judith Thompson compares an abortion to being hooked up to a famous violinist with a fatal kidney ailment who needs to use specifically your kidneys for only nine months to stay alive.Thompson then wonders, what would be the moral decision to the violinist case? Is one obligated to continue allowing the violinist to use their circulatory system to stay alive? Or would it be perfectly acceptable to unplug yourself from an action that you have given no permission to happen? Thompson attempt is to compare this case to a woman deciding to go through with an abortion.
